Pancreatic Cancer Screening
About Pancreatic Cancer Screening
GAP participates with other local GI providers and the Novant Health Cancer Institute in a pancreatic cancer screening program designed to serve high-risk patients.
Pancreatic cancer remains one of the most challenging cancers to detect early because symptoms often go unnoticed until advanced stages. As a result, the five-year survival rate remains alarmingly low. However, early detection can dramatically improve outcomes. This program is intended to change the trajectory for high-risk patients in our community by enabling proactive, localized screening and timely connection to treatment before the cancer spreads.
Qualified patients with a personal or family history of cancer can undergo a genetic risk assessment through Novant Health’s Cancer Institute in Winston-Salem. Those identified as higher risk are referred to the pancreatic cancer screening program that we deliver at GAP. Participants of the program will be under the care of a gastroenterologist, a geneticist, and a nutritionist to develop and navigate the best plan for their specific situation.
Our participation in this collaborative effort aligns with our ongoing mission to improve health outcomes through prevention, early diagnosis, and exceptional specialty care.
