Dr. Sweeney received his undergraduate degree from Marietta College and his medical degree from the Marshall University School of Medicine. His internship and residency were completed at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine and his fellowship was completed at The University of Cincinnati School of Medicine.
He is board certified in Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. His professional affiliations include the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the North Carolina Medical Society, and the North Carolina Society of Gastroenterology.
Dr. Sweeney joined our group in 2005. Along with his general gastroenterology practice, he has special interests in diseases of the pancreatic and biliary systems. He has completed additional training to sub-specialize in EUS and ERCP procedures. He also collaborates with PMG Research of Winston-Salem in clinical research studies and serves as a clinical assistant professor of medicine at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
